Recap - Our second day in Cot

The word to summarize our second day in Cot would be "experience". It is easy to walk among the people you are visiting, but to truly spend a day in their shoes is a different story. Our Seniors were about to get that very experience.

They arrived to school bright and early, all dressed in the school uniform shirts they were given. They looked great! No day in Costa Rica starts off without food, so after breakfast served by the wonderful cafeteria staff, the seniors were teamed up with students and headed to class. They spent the morning in classes such as Social Studies, Geography, Music, Chemistry and a VERY physical PE class. It was an eye-opening experience for many, as they tried to navigate the language and the content. There were even stories of a dance contest in Music class!

Lunch was served and then all the Seniors with their teammates met up to discuss the morning. They played a game, describing the differences our students had seen in the classrooms they had visited. The catch was the Seniors had to speak in Spanish and the Costa Ricans in English! It was a fun time of bonding for all. The Seniors then headed to different English classes, where they helped the Costa Rican students practice their English.

We returned to our host families for the afternoon. For many it was a time of coffee and food, a time of sharing experiences and stories with the families that had come to mean so much to all.

The group gathered again in the evening for dinner and music hosted by Creating Values, the local Christian group here in Cot, that had arranged for our visit. It was fun just to relax and hang out with one another. Many of our Seniors joined in with the band, with Warner playing drums, Jacey and Lauren A. singing, and Will, Luke, Julius and Mary Grace each stepping up and rapping. What an experience!

We are home tonight for our final goodbyes with our families. In our home, tears are being shed by all, as our love and care for one another is expressed. What amazing people.

Tomorrow, we depart for Guarari. We leave behind more memories than can be shared and hearts that have been blessed beyond measure.
