Un poco ingles y un poco espanol

From the start, my roomate, Lauren Jones, and I were received with open arms. We arrived the first night at about 10 pm Tica time, which is midnight our time. Despite the exhaustion, we stayed up to snack on the dinner our host mom so graciously prepared for us. Digging through our memories of Spanish class, Lauren and I were able to disect her sentences one word at a time and compile a response. Sure, there were some awkward moments when we had no clue what to say or when we figured out that what we said actually meant nothing, but we were all able to laugh about it. Now we can hold conversations, granted quite slowly, and that's one of the most rewarding experiences so far - connecting with people through an exchange of un poco ingles y in poco espanol.
